Farmer’s Glory by A G Street
“One of the great farming books.” James Rebanks, author of The Shepherd’s Life.
First published in 1932, Farmer’s Glory is A. G. Street’s warm, humorous and unsentimental account of the joys and tribulations of farming in the early years of the twentieth century, in Wiltshire and in Canada. Part of our Nature Classics series.
Introduction by James Rebanks, with illustrations by Gwen Raverat.
A. G. Street (1892-1966) was a farmer and broadcaster who grew up in Wiltshire, farmed first in Canada before returning to southern England, and wrote many books, of which Farmer’s Glory was his first and is also his best known. The book was written to supplement his income during the great depression of the early 1930s – in later years Street wrote a column for Farmer’s Weekly.
