At Little Toller we identify with the careful work that other small, independent publishers put into their books. These ‘micropublishers’ are most often run by individuals or collectives who are driven by a passion for good writing and  design. To champion these cottage industries around the country, we have selected some of the publishers we particularly admire and the books we’ve especially enjoyed – and we’ll keep adding to this list as we spot new gems.

ATLANTIC PRESS

ATLANTIC PRESS create works of graphic literature which respect the illustrator’s personal voice: their ideas, their pictures and their words. Associated with the Masters course in authorial illustration at Falmouth University, Atlantic promote new authorial illustration talent as well as recognising existing practitioners in the illustration field.

COMMON GROUND

COMMON GROUND was founded in 1983 by Sue Clifford, Angela King and the writer Roger Deakin to seek imaginative ways to engage people with their local environment. The idea of Local Distinctiveness is at the heart of everything they do, and for the last thirty years they have captured the imagination of people all over the country by creating projects like Apple Day,  Parish Maps and New Milestones, all of which continue to inspire our new projects and unearth the strong connections that communities have with the landscape that surrounds them.

CORBEL STONE PRESS

CORBEL STONE PRESS is a small, artist-run press run by Autumn Richardson and Richard Skelton. We publish audio recordings, texts and art – specialising in handmade editions using environmentally friendly materials wherever possible. Our particular areas of interest are landscape, the poetics of place, ecology, folklore and animism.

UNIFORMBOOKS

UNIFORMBOOKS is an imprint for the visual and literary arts, cultural geography and history, music and bibliographic studies. The uniformity of the format and the expansive variety of the list and its subjects, is characteristic of our open approach to publishing.
