The Clearing Volume One
A journal of contemporary writing about nature and place, from new and established writers.
The Clearing is a respected online journal of writing about nature and place. This printed journal, the first in a series, made possible by support from Arts Council England, showcases some of the most exciting new writing from emerging and established writers engaged with place, the natural world and our interactions with it.
The subjects are diverse, from the experience of climbing a sweet chestnut tree to battling southern England’s wildfires, from the sole woman hidden in the Bayeux Tapestry to hunting for the remains of Albanian communism, and of memories of the East Anglian Fairs of the 1970s and 80s to the roots of Derbyshire place-names. All are meaningful, surprising, felt, and are deeply engaged with their subjects.
