BARBARA GREG (1900 – 1983) was born in Styal, Cheshire, and studied at the Slade School in London. Her earliest jobs were designing endpapers and piano rolls produced by the Aeolian Company. She collaborated closely with Ian Niall, studying Thomas Bewick’s woodcuts as inspiration for Fresh WoodsPastures New, Ian Niall’s sublime elegy to a forgotten world: life as a boy on a farm in Galloway in the 1920s, a reminder of how rare this sort of childhood has become.
